Andover, Kansas
A Wichita Builder Who Knows Andover Is a Different Jurisdiction.
Andover is in Butler County, with its own building department and its own permit process. We build, remodel, and roof here often enough to get that part right the first time.
Why the county matters
Andover does not permit through Wichita.
Most Wichita contractors work almost entirely inside Sedgwick County, where the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department handles permits and inspections. Andover sits in Butler County and runs its own Building and Inspections Department out of City Hall on East Central. Different office, different submittal, different inspectors.
That distinction is worth real money on your schedule. A contractor who assumes Andover works like Wichita submits to the wrong desk and loses weeks before a single footing is poured. We permit here regularly, so your project starts where it is supposed to start.
One useful change: as of June 2025 Andover no longer issues its own contractor license for most permits. Contractors now need a MABCD license and a certificate of insurance on file with the city. JAKS carries MABCD License 12358, Class A, which covers all commercial and residential construction, and we hold licenses across the metro jurisdictions rather than Wichita alone, so we pull Andover permits ourselves.
What we build here
Our Andover work.
New home construction
Custom and semi-custom homes on Andover lots, run on the same 13 stage schedule we use everywhere, with cabinetry from our own shop.
Kitchen and bath remodeling
Andover has a lot of homes from the 1990s and 2000s with dated kitchens and closed-off layouts. That is most of the remodeling we do out here.
Custom millwork and cabinetry
Built in our Wichita shop and installed in Andover the same week. Nothing sits in a supplier queue.
Roofing and storm restoration
Butler County takes the same Kansas hail Sedgwick does. We document the damage, meet your adjuster, and handle the replacement.
Commercial construction
Build-outs and ground-up work along Central and the US-54 corridor, permitted through the City of Andover.

Andover Questions We Get Asked
Do you need a special license to build in Andover?
Andover is in Butler County and runs its own Building and Inspections Department, so it is a separate jurisdiction from Wichita. Since June 2025 the city no longer issues its own contractor license for most permits: contractors need a MABCD license and a certificate of insurance on file with the city. JAKS holds MABCD license 12358, Class A, which covers all commercial and residential construction.
Who issues building permits in Andover?
The City of Andover Building and Inspections Department at City Hall on East Central, not the Sedgwick County MABCD office that covers Wichita. It is a common source of confusion, and getting it wrong costs you weeks. We submit to the correct jurisdiction and schedule the inspections as part of the job.
How quickly can you get to an Andover job site?
Our shop is on East Kellogg in Wichita, a straight shot west of Andover on US-54. We are on Andover sites the same day when something needs a decision, which is the practical reason to hire a contractor from this side of town rather than one crossing the whole metro.
Do you build in the rest of Butler County?
Yes. Andover is where most of our Butler County work is, but we build in the surrounding communities as well. Rural lots bring their own questions around septic, driveways, and utilities, and we check those before you commit to a property.
Can you do just the cabinetry for an Andover home?
Yes. We take standalone millwork projects whether or not JAKS is doing the surrounding construction, from a single vanity to a full kitchen. Everything is built in our own Wichita shop and installed by the team that built it.
