JAKS Construction
A JAKS Construction crew working on a residential project in the Wichita area

Augusta, Kansas

Augusta Is Butler County, With Its Own Codes Division.

Augusta issues its own contractor licenses and runs its own inspections out of City Hall. Remodeling, new construction, roofing, and cabinetry from our own Wichita shop.

How Augusta works

A different county and a different permit desk.

Augusta sits in Butler County, east of Wichita past Andover, and runs its own Inspection and Codes division out of City Hall on East Sixth. It handles building plans, permits, inspections, and enforcement of the building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes.

Augusta requires its own city contractor license for work inside the city, along with a minimum of $300,000 in general liability coverage. That is a higher bar than some neighbouring jurisdictions set, and it is worth knowing that a Wichita license alone does not let a contractor pull a permit here.

We hold licenses across the metro and sub-city jurisdictions rather than Wichita alone, so we submit to Augusta directly and build the review and inspection windows into your schedule from the start rather than discovering them after demolition.

What we build here

Our Augusta work.

  • Kitchen and bath remodeling

Augusta has a long-established housing stock, and the kitchens and baths are usually where the age shows first.

  • Whole-home renovation

Larger renovations on older homes, where the wiring, plumbing, and structure behind the walls matter as much as the finishes.

  • New home construction

Custom and semi-custom homes on Augusta and Butler County lots, run on a defined 13 stage schedule with cabinetry from our own shop.

  • Roofing and storm restoration

Butler County takes the same Kansas hail Sedgwick does. We document the damage, meet your adjuster, and replace the roof to a standard that holds.

  • Custom millwork and cabinetry

Cabinets, vanities, and built-ins built in our Wichita shop and installed by the crew that built them.

Augusta Questions We Get Asked

Who issues building permits in Augusta?

The City of Augusta Inspection and Codes division, based at City Hall on East Sixth Street. Augusta is in Butler County, so it does not use the Sedgwick County MABCD office that covers Wichita, and it does not contract its inspections out.

Are you licensed to build in Augusta?

Yes. Augusta requires its own city contractor license for work within the city, along with a minimum of $300,000 in general liability insurance. We hold licenses across the metro and sub-city jurisdictions, so we pull Augusta permits directly.

Does a Wichita contractor license cover work in Augusta?

No. Augusta is a separate jurisdiction in a separate county with its own licensing requirement, so a contractor licensed only in Wichita cannot pull a permit here. It is a fair thing to confirm before signing with anyone for an Augusta project.

How far is Augusta from your shop?

Our shop is on East Kellogg in Wichita, which puts Augusta a straight run east on US-54 past Andover. Far enough that plenty of Wichita contractors treat it as out of area, close enough that we work it regularly.

Do you work elsewhere in Butler County?

Yes. Andover and Augusta are where most of our Butler County work sits, but we build in the surrounding communities as well. Rural lots bring their own questions around septic, driveways, and utilities, and we check those before you commit to a property.
