What a Bathroom Remodel Costs in Wichita

Bathrooms are small rooms with a lot of trades in them. Here is what each level of work tends to cost in Wichita, and why.

About these numbers

The ranges below are our read of the Wichita market for three common scopes, with a regional survey average beside each. The regional figures quoted are from the 2025 Cost vs Value survey for the West North Central region, which includes Kansas; our own ranges bracket them for Wichita. They are ranges, not quotes: the biggest swing in a bathroom is whether the plumbing moves.

A bathroom packs plumbing, electrical, tile, waterproofing, cabinetry, glass, and paint into a few dozen square feet, which is why a small room can carry a large number and why two bathrooms of the same size can be priced so differently.

In Wichita, a same-layout refresh runs roughly $15,000 to $30,000, a full remodel in the same footprint roughly $30,000 to $55,000, and a primary bath that moves walls or plumbing starts around $60,000.

Three kinds of project

Refresh, full remodel, or a bigger bathroom.

  • Refresh, same layout, roughly $15,000 to $30,000

Tub or shower replaced in place, often a tub-to-shower conversion, new vanity built in our shop, new tile floor, fixtures, lighting, paint, and a new toilet. Plumbing stays where it is. The regional survey average for a midrange bath is about $27,000.

  • Full remodel, same footprint, roughly $30,000 to $55,000

Everything out, waterproofing and tile done properly, a custom tiled shower with glass, custom vanity and storage, new lighting and ventilation, and heated floor if you want it. The survey average for an accessible, universal-design bath is about $44,000.

  • Primary bath with layout change or expansion, $60,000 and up

Walls move or a closet is taken in, plumbing relocates, a freestanding tub and a large walk-in shower, double vanity, and stone or large-format tile throughout. The survey average for an upscale bath remodel is about $83,000, and adding a bathroom where none exists runs about $62,000 midrange to $113,000 upscale.

What moves the number

The decisions that actually set a bathroom budget.

  • Moving plumbing

Keeping the toilet, drain, and supply lines where they are is the biggest saving. A relocated drain in a slab house means cutting concrete.

  • The shower

A prefabricated unit, a tiled shower with a prefab pan, and a fully tiled custom shower with a linear drain are three different projects. Glass is its own line.

  • Tile quantity and size

Floor only, wainscot, or floor-to-ceiling. Large-format and natural stone take more labor to set and cut than standard ceramic.

  • Vanity and storage

A stock vanity and a custom vanity built to the wall are a modest difference in price and a large difference in how the room works. Ours come from our own Wichita shop.

  • Ventilation and electrical

Older bathrooms often lack a proper exhaust fan and the circuits current code calls for. Both get corrected when the walls are open.

What it leaves out

What the ranges leave out.

The items that turn up after demo or after the selections are made. None of them is in a published range because none of them is known in advance.

  • Water damage

Soft subfloor and framing under an old tub or shower are common and invisible until demo. We price the repair in writing before continuing.

  • Fixtures above standard

Freestanding tubs, body sprays, smart toilets, and designer faucets can each move the number by thousands.

  • Design and selections

Layout drawings and selections ahead of a firm price.

  • The hallway and closet

Expanding a bath takes space from somewhere, and that room gets patched, painted, and trimmed too.

A budget range at the first visit, then a written proposal after we measure and you have chosen the layout and the main fixtures. One contract covers demo, plumbing and electrical coordination, waterproofing, tile, cabinetry from our shop, fixtures, lighting, glass, paint, and trim, with permits handled and a written schedule.

Bathroom Remodel Cost Questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Wichita?

A same-layout refresh runs roughly $15,000 to $30,000, a full remodel in the same footprint roughly $30,000 to $55,000, and a primary bath that moves walls or plumbing starts around $60,000. The 2025 regional survey averages are about $27,000 midrange and $83,000 upscale.

What does a tub-to-shower conversion cost?

Most fall inside the refresh range because the drain stays close to where it was. A fully tiled shower with glass sits at the top of that range; a prefabricated unit at the bottom.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

A same-footprint bathroom is usually two to four weeks on site, with tile and glass lead times setting the pace. Layout changes add to that.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Replacing fixtures in place does not need one. Moving plumbing, adding circuits, or changing structure does. We handle the permit and inspections with the jurisdiction that governs your address.

Can we keep using the bathroom during the work?

Not this one. Plan on the other bathroom for the duration; we keep the work area sealed and clean daily.

Is a custom vanity worth it in a small bathroom?

Small rooms are where a vanity built to the exact wall and the exact drawer layout pays off most. It is also where our shop saves you the wait on a special order.
